"The Teacher is no longer merely the-one-who teaches, but one who is himself taught in dialogue with students, who in turn while being taught also teach. They become jointly responsible for a process in which all grow" - Paulo Freire
I first dipped my toes into academia as a university tutor during my postgraduate years and have since worked in a couple of universities. As my thirst for knowledge in the media grew, I wanted to work in an environment where I can apply my knowledge in communication and media studies but most importantly, I yearn to pass on my knowledge to aspiring students.
Singapore is a landscape that is competitive as much as it is polarized. As such, I believe it is vital that we are as much into learning and evolving as we are into teaching.
Photography did exactly that for me. A continuous learning experience that I am deeply passionate about. I picked up a camera 10 years ago as a student and the rest as they say is history.
I slowly perfected my craft over the years by doing photography jobs for free before slowly transitioning myself into commercial and teaching. Naturally of course, I integrated my passion into my teaching as well.
The concept of EVOKE came as I was photographing one of my students when she told me that looking back the photos in 5 years time will surely bring back the wonderful feeling of a students life. As such, the revelation came that I want to EVOKE the same feeling in everyone each time they look at the pictures that I have taken for them.
My main cup of tea in photography are portraits and food photography. I also publish the occasional academic journals as part of the academic body. Feel free to download my publications for your own reading pleasure or jump over to my blog for some casual articles. If you are a student, always remember to reference my work, or any other authors you cite.
Cheers,
